To all my friends, neighbors, supporters, and soon-to-be-constituents,
While our campaign for City Council was successful, I know many of you are concerned about the future of our state and national politics. But any temptation toward cynicism or despair must be rejected in favor of what needs to happen next.
After losing two years ago to the same incumbent I beat last night, we didn't rest or withdraw from our community. Together, we organized neighborhood groups, we engaged people on local issues that mattered, and we got results that improved people's lives. It wasn’t easy, especially at the beginning, but this is a battle worth having.
Take time to grieve, to heal, to rest from a long campaign, but get ready. We must be willing to fight and fight together, today, tomorrow, and every day to make our communities stronger, better, and safer for everyone.
I hope you'll join me in taking that next step... look into your own community, get involved, and make a difference. Work hard to be inclusive and diverse, listen to the voices of those who are different than you, find common ground and work towards positive results. I did not give up on Austin and we will not give up on our state or our country.Very truly yours,
Austin Council Member-elect Jimmy Flannigan
