While my campaign was successful on Tuesday, I know many of you are upset and fear for the future of our country. But I want you to know that not all is lost. After losing two years ago to the same incumbent I beat last night, we didn't rest. We organized neighborhood groups, we engaged people on local issues that mattered, and we got results that will improve people's lives. While the now former council member berated the LGBT community, insulted people of color, and dismissed the concerns of women, people who had supported him and people who hadn't voted at all began to reach out and join our efforts to better our community. And just two short years later, that work has led to an electoral victory.
So join me in taking that next step... look into your own community, get involved, and make a difference. Work hard to be inclusive and diverse, listen to the voices of those who are different than you, find common ground and work towards positive results. I did not give up on Austin and we will not give up on this country. Join me and let's work together for what's next.
